Midwest Perzine Fest Online Perzine Reading on April 8!
This spring, Midwest Perzine Fest is celebrating perzines — and the friendships they help forge — with a virtual event featuring some amazing zinemakers! The Midwest Perzine Fest Online Perzine Reading will be streamed live on Friday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m. Central Time on the MWPZF YouTube channel: tiny.cc/mwpzfyoutube
The readers for the event, who all will be sharing work on the theme of friendship, are Heather Anacker, Nichole Bael, Julie Halpern & Liz Mason, Jessie Lynn McMains, Lynne Monsoon, Red Schulte, and Alisha Walker. The evening’s moderator will be MWPZF founder Jonas.

During these pandemic times, many people have turned to zinemaking as a way to share their experiences, their knowledge, their fears, and their resilience.

Free!This month, Zine Club Chicago incredibly excited to hand over its event to the amazing minds behind Meanwhile Chicago, who will bring their unique zinemaking-meets-storytelling show to our little corner of Zoom. Expect thrilling performers, inspiring zine prompts, and the high-spirited fun that only the Meanwhile hosts can generate, all focused on the theme Over the Hill.
Performers will include Aim Beland, Linda Kawano, and Liz Mason & Cynthia E. Hanifin! The Meanwhile crew — Megan Kirby, Catherine Eves, and DJ Williams — will share zinemaking prompts so you can create along at home. All you’ll need is some plain paper and your favorite writing/drawing implement.

This February, Zine Club takes a field trip to Pumping Station: One in Avondale, Chicago’s oldest and largest hackerspace!
We’ll be discussing DIY zines that teach and inspire readers to do it yourself. Bring your favorite titles that instruct us on how you can make, design, build, create, tinker, and hack anything! Zine newbies and longtime enthusiasts alike are welcome to join us for a fun discussion and snacks.
We’ll also be taking a short tour of Pumping Station: One to see all the tools and members working on projects, to serve as inspiration for your next venture.
We have a Mystery Zine Swap every month! If you’d like to participate, bring a zine (concealed in some way) to trade with someone else on the spot.

Quimby’s is proud to co-sponsor The Chicago Zine Fest, a celebration of small press and independent publishers, with free workshops, events, and an annual festival. CZF 2018 will be held May 18-19. All events are free!
Friday, May 18th: Panel Discussion & Exhibitor Reading, 6:30-9:30pm at the Institute of Cultural Affairs, 4750 N. Sheridan Road in Uptown. The topic is On Speaking Terms: Zines, Librarians and Communities and the panel will feature local zinester and Chicago Public Library employee Oscar Arreola, Doro of the School of the Art Institute’s Zine Collection, Milo from Queer Zine Archive Project (QZAP), and moderated by the University of Chicago’s zine archivist, Sarah G. Wenzel. Then stay for the exhibitor reading featuring performances by Zach Auburn, Shira Mario, Megan Metzger, Ariel Chan, Marian Runk, Katie Armentrout and Cathy Hannah. Christina Ward is a Master Food Preserver and doesn’t want you to kill Aunt Edna with a jar of pickles.
