  • Quimby's Bookstore Podcast #3 Is Up!

    Editor Ryan Standfest discusses BLACK EYE 1: Graphic Transmissions to Cause Ocular Hypertension, an anthology that collects original narrative comics, art and essays by 41 international artists and writers, all focused on the expression of black, dark or absurdist humor. (And yes, we carry it at Quimby’s.) Ryan was here this past June 24th, to celebrate the Chicago release with some of the local artists included in the anthology.

  • ARCHER PREWITT SIGNS WORK ON PAPER

    Multi-talented Chicago artist Archer Prewitt (The Sea and Cake, The Coctails) signs his new book, Work On Paper!

    Not many people will know that the author of crazy and perverted comic, Sof’ Boy, is the same man who drew the beautiful and delicate nymph-like girl from the artists’ own music album, Wilderness. But look carefully and you will notice that the most intricately drawn fine lines and dots are mutual features of much of his work; the same organic, subtle, sophisticated and tender sensibility shine through in all of Archer Prewitt’s creations and never ceases to charm us.

    This book collects 32 of selected works from a group of minimal drawings he has been working on for almost 20 years.

    Foreword by Jim Harris (Courtauld Institute of Art, London).

  • Free Shit – ANP Quarterly #9

    Atten-shun! A new issue of the uber-hip, full color, giant-sized visual arts extravaganza known as the ANP Quarterly dropped into Quimby’s the other day. Coming out of RVCA and edited by Ed Templeton, the ANP  is easily one of the best visual arts zines kicking around today. The best part about it is the price: it’s totally free.  This issue has Harmony Korine and Yoda on the cover. Also featured are Tomoo Gokita, Leigh Ledare, Uta Barth, and Ashley Macomber, among others.  Be sure to come by and pick up a copy if you’re in the hood.

    A while back we hosted an awesome event with the Eye Rocket books guys to promote their crazy art/zine/grande school send up titled Works Cited. At the event they took people’s picture and then added their own twist to the images. The results were hilarious and often always spot on!

    Not coming soon to a Wii near you… V-TECH RAMPAGE, the latest in a long line of bizarre, mayhem-inspired games. Commenting on the game, MagmaDragoonX2000 writes, “Well the game was kinda short but consideing what its based on I guess thats expected. The gameplay was okay although it did seem shoddy but over all not that bad.”

    If you’re jonesing for a some less topical 2-D videogame mayhem, you can’t do much better than the awesome zombie-themed Boxhead: The Rooms.
